The beasts of billiard

Putting names or logos of animals for trademarks is not an exclusive phenomenon of billiards far. Just see most NBA teams (Dallas Mavericks, Chicaco Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves ...), technology companies (Firefox, Mailchimp, Twitter), a footwear brands like Puma or energy drinks like Red Bull. The pool is fed, in part, of this particular American and Anglo-Saxon tradition of identifying a business with an animal by its characteristics or their skills.

The beasts of billiard

I have found up to ten brands of cues and billiard material having a fierce name specific or at least refer to the animal world. That is the case of PredatorBearFalconTigerBisonScorpionFat CatViperStinger or Griffin. As you can see, most are American companies and most respond to wild animals.

Companies that sell billiard material know that these names are easy to remember, that they can make good logos with them and also can quickly identify the philosophy of the company and, more importantly, the characteristics of the cue. We all have basic references of these animals and can quickly associate their names to their way of being. It is, therefore, a great marketing strategy.

Of course, there are other well-known billiard brands which do not identify at all with the animal world, like MezzPechauer ot Longoni.

What they do is to take the name of the founder, another very common option, however, it does not have the above advantages.

And you also play with a cue that has an animal name?
